Cineon is excited to announce its partnership with Aquila Jet Training to develop a prototype virtual reality (VR) training tool designed specifically for pilot training. This cutting-edge tool is powered by the Pico Neo 2 Eye and incorporates in-VR eye-tracking to enhance training efficiency and improve pilot performance.

A Revolutionary Approach to Pilot Training

The training tool, which is based on the Airbus A320, combines physical interactions with visual monitoring to create a comprehensive learning experience. Trainees will engage in a series of ‘flow patterns’, designed to simulate real-life scenarios, where their eye movements and visual focus are tracked throughout the training process.

By utilizing gaze and fixation research, the tool provides unique insights into trainee performance, allowing instructors to monitor and improve the pilot’s training in ways that traditional methods cannot. The in-VR eye-movement feedback training (FBEMT) has been proven to enhance learning and accelerate training outcomes.

A New Era in Pilot Training

Cineon Director, Toby de Burgh, said:

“This is the first of a new line of in-VR eye-tracking training tools we are developing – this one for pilot training. There is a significant body of research around the use of eye-tracking as an aid to learning.

“We are hoping to develop this prototype further for pilot training with a number of UK airlines who are interested in adopting VR training to complement existing desktop and simulator based training.”
