The Cineon team is excited to announce that we are moving into the second phase of our virtual reality (VR) simulation project aimed at improving safety training for nuclear workers. This cutting-edge project focuses on air-fed suits, fully contained hazard suits used in radiation zones with a high risk of contamination.
Funded by Innovate UK, the first phase of this project developed a prototype VR simulation to train operators in the correct dressing procedure for air-fed suits. Now, in phase two, we’re building on that success by incorporating additional features and refining the training experience based on user feedback.
Simplified and Expanded Training
Our team is working to simplify the simulation for even greater usability while introducing new modules focused on:
- Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): Ensuring operators are equipped and trained in correct PPE use.
- Safe Working Conditions: Providing immersive environments to practise maintaining safety standards.
- Hazard Identification: Training operators to spot and mitigate potential risks effectively.
These enhancements will offer nuclear operators more in-depth, practical training tailored to the realities of working in high-risk environments.
Built for the Oculus Quest

This simulation is specifically designed for the Oculus Quest, making it portable, wireless, and accessible. Its ease of use ensures it can seamlessly integrate into classroom or on-site training programs.
Upcoming Demonstration
Cineon’s VR simulation will be demonstrated at an upcoming Nuclear Decommissioning Authority (NDA) event, showcasing how this innovative training tool can enhance safety and performance in the nuclear industry.
