Cineon’s Chief Scientific Officer, Sam Vine, Recognised Among the World’s Top 2% Scientists

Cineon is proud to announce that our Chief Scientific Officer, Professor Sam Vine, has been recognised as one of the Top 2% of Scientists after being included in a list compiled by Stanford University. This prestigious ranking highlights his exceptional contributions to research in human performance, learning, and immersive technology. 

A leader in scientific innovation 

Sam is a Professor of Psychology at the University of Exeter and a Director of Research and Impact within the University of Exeter Medical School. As co-founder and CSO at Cineon, he plays a key role in shaping our research-driven approach. He chairs Cineon’s Scientific Advisory Board, leads the Virtual Immersive Training and Learning (VITAL) research group at the University of Exeter, and co-chairs a NATO research task group exploring extended reality (XR) technology in defence. 

With a career dedicated to understanding the neuropsychology of learning and performance, Sam’s work focuses on eye-tracking, psychophysiological measurement, and virtual reality to study human cognition and behaviour. With applications across sport, surgery, military, and aviation, his research informs performance training, decision-making, and behavioural analysis in high-risk, high-performance environments. 

Sam has authored over 100 peer-reviewed publications and has been involved in research and innovation grants totalling over £4 million. His recognised fields of expertise include Experimental Psychology and Sport Sciences.

What is the Top 2% Scientists list? 

Compiled by Stanford University using Scopus data from Elsevier, this annual ranking identifies researchers who have made a significant global impact in their respective fields. The selection is based on rigorous citation metrics, including the h-index, co-authorship, and adjusted citation counts. Scientists are categorised across 22 broad fields and 176 sub-fields, with only the top 2% in each category included.
